A message from Phil:
“This year, I am embarking on a 450-mile (725 km) cycling challenge to raise money for George’s Trust, celebrating his life and ensuring his legacy continues to support those in need. The journey will be more than just a test of endurance; it will be a meaningful route through places that shaped George’s life.George himself was a keen cyclist, having received a new bike not long before his death. He found joy and freedom on two wheels, and it’s only fitting that this ride—a challenge filled with beauty, difficulty, and reflection—mirrors something he loved. The ride begins outside Truro Cathedral, where George once sang as a member of the Romsey Abbey Choir. From there, I will navigate the country’s cycling network, prioritising scenic, unpaved trails that promise both fun and challenge. Along the way, I will visit George’s brother, Henry, offering a moment to reflect on the personal connections that remain so vital.
Another important stop will be Wells Cathedral, where George’s voice once soared within its ancient walls. It will serve as a poignant reminder of his passion for music and the joy he found in choral singing. As the journey progresses, I will arrive at the House of Commons, where Rt Hon Caroline Nokes, MP and a long-time supporter of George’s Trust, will meet me alongside members of George’s family.
Their presence will reinforce the impact that George’s life and charity continue to have, bringing together those who believe in making a difference. Finally, after six days of cycling, the journey will conclude at Romsey Abbey. This will not only mark the end of the physical challenge but will also serve as a moment of remembrance and celebration—honouring George where his voice was once a vital part of the choir. This ride is more than a fundraiser; it is a tribute to George’s enduring influence.
Every mile pedalled will reflect his spirit, every donation received will support the cause he would have championed.George’s Trust continues to provide hope, assistance, and opportunity to young people in his name. I am honoured to undertake this challenge, knowing that every turn of the wheel brings us closer to ensuring his legacy lives on.
To support this journey and George’s Trust, please donate and help make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
